EHC Program Update: New Grand Rounds Series; Long COVID Notice of Intent

AHRQ Effective Health Care

New AHRQ Evidence-based Practice Center Program Grand Rounds Series

Thursday March 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. ET

The Agency for the Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and AcademyHealth invite you to attend the AHRQ Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program Grand Rounds Series for 2023. This 120-minute meeting will be held virtually by the Scientific Resource Center (SRC) supporting AHRQ's EPC program, and is dedicated to promoting and facilitating the use of evidence reports in health care.  The first meeting of the year will focus on telehealth.

Telehealth has revolutionized the way providers communicate with one another and with their patients. Since its adoption, this technology has made health care more accessible for many who would otherwise not receive care, many of whom live in rural settings. Although it was minimally used before COVID-19, nearly all medical appointments were carried out via telemedicine at the peak of the pandemic. The exponential increase in use during and since that time has given health systems the opportunity to implement and study its effectiveness.

The goal of this meeting is to expand the awareness of and implementation of the findings recently published in two evidence reports conducted by the AHRQ EPC Program: 1) Improving Rural Health Through Telehealth-Guided Provider to Provider Communications and 2) Use of Telehealth during the COVID-19 Era. You'll hear from the authors of the two reports, Annette Totten, Ph.D., and Elham Hatef, M.D., along with several experts who will weigh in on gaps in the evidence and implications for the field.

New Request for Applications to Expand Access to Care for People with Long COVID

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) intends to publish a new Request for Applications (RFA) to expand access to comprehensive, coordinated, and person-centered care for people with Long COVID, particularly underserved, rural, vulnerable, or minority populations that are disproportionately impacted by the effects of Long COVID. Through this funding, AHRQ intends to support existing multidisciplinary Long COVID clinics to develop and implement new or improved care delivery models, provide services to more people with Long COVID, expand services offered, strengthen care coordination, implement and share best practices for Long COVID management, support the primary care community with Long COVID education and management, evaluate project success, and disseminate findings.

AHRQ anticipates publishing the RFA in April or May 2023 and making up to $9,000,000 in awards by September 30, 2023. This notice encourages organizations with existing Long COVID clinics and investigators with appropriate expertise and capabilities to begin to consider applying for this RFA.

Notice of Intent to Publish Funding Opportunity Announcement to Implement and Evaluate New Models for Delivering Comprehensive, Coordinated, Person-Centered Care to People with Long COVID
