Tonight we bring you another selection from the 1,000+ notes we received from readers in their 70s and 80s on how they're celebrating life's bonus time.

  • Catch up quick: Americans are living longer and staying healthier longer than ever before. And studies have shown that happiness spikes in our later years as we find ourselves with more free time and less stress.

💡 Here's how Finish Line readers are using that time:

  • "I am amazed at my age, which is 77. How did that happen so quickly? ... My husband and I are the same age. ... We share enjoyment in our land, our dog and the last of our Morgan horses. We are proud of our daughter and granddaughter. We exercise, eat a balanced diet and share thoughts over our evening glass of wine. The mirror is not our friend. But the access to the internet is." –Carol S., Vestal, New York
  • "When you get old, you can be more free with what you wear or what you do or say — not worry as much about what other people think. I plan to dye my hair bright red for my 80th birthday." –Jody C., Mount Airy, North Carolina
  • "I've learned that there's not too much I can do about aging except to enjoy it. ... Let's face it. Like our inevitable deaths, it's something we can't do too much to stop. And why would we want to? ... I like to think that I wear my age as a badge of accomplishment and honor." –Michael M., Newtown Square, Pennsylvania
  • At 76, "I feel more in control of time than ever. A clock is now more a useful tool and less a demanding autocrat. I am more able to choose how to fill time more meaningfully." –Dan B., Charlotte, North Carolina
  • "I've given myself permission to not spend my life trying to accommodate everyone else's needs before my own. It took 7 decades but I'm learning." –Amelia G., Jacksonville, Florida
  • "At 82, I am delighted to choose happiness, all the time. Not quite sure when it dawned on me how easy that choice is." –Mali K., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

🔭 What's next: We'd love to make this series bigger! Let's start a chain of generational advice.

  • If you're in your 90s, what is one big thing you would tell those in their 80s? If you're in your 80s, what would you advise the septuagenarians?
  • And all the way down to younger folks: If you're in your 30s or 20s, what did you wish you knew in your 20s or teens?

📬 Send your advice — in one to two sentences — along with your first and last name, hometown and age to finishline@axios.com. We'll kick off the generational wisdom chain next week!

  • "My husband and I had the opportunity to live and work in London for many years, and our boys were born there. ... [This] print, by Kristjana S Williams, we found at a small shop in Clapham Common," she writes.
  • "We're now back in the U.S., but we have these maps prominently displayed in our Connecticut home as a reminder of our magical time living in Brixton and exploring London with our young boys."
