We're supporting America's workers today and shaping their future for tomorrow.  U.S. Department of Labor July 28, 2022 Secretary Walsh discusses the benefits of unions and workforce training in Georgia In the Peach State this week, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh toured the Turner Job Corps Center, where he discussed critical training for the future workforce. He also delivered remarks at the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Convention and met with leaders in the Advancing Black Strategist Initiative to discuss the benefits of collective bargaining and how the department is empowering workers while building a more equitable workforce.  In Detroit, Secretary Walsh highlights the value of workforce training and development Secretary Walsh toured the Detroit Job Corps Center this week, where he highlighted the value of workforce training in strengthening the nation's economy and how the department is working to improve job quality while creating access to jobs for underserved communities through the Good Jobs Initiative. He also delivered remarks at the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America's 38th annual constitutional convention. 32 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act This week we celebrated the anniversary of signing the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990, a milestone in America's ongoing quest to build a more equitable, inclusive society. Why hiring America's veterans makes sense Every year, more than 200,000 service members transition out of the military. On National Hire a Veteran Day, we shared tools and resources for companies seeking to hire veterans and highlighted the unique skills and experience veterans can bring to the civilian workplace. The Women's Bureau will award $3.4 million for grants to increase women's access and participation. Family Dollar penalties OSHA proposed $330,446 in penalties for an Orlando Family Dollar store after an investigation into a fatal shoplifting incident. Protecting retirement We are calling for input on a proposed amendment that provides protections for retirement plans, participants and beneficiaries. $1.3M for Cherokee Nation We awarded $1.3 million to the Cherokee Nation to support continued disaster relief, employment and training in response to the pandemic. Wages recovered We recovered $268,014 for 63 workers from a technical and engineering contractor who denied them a portion of their wages and benefits.
