Good jobs, the future of work, millions in grants and more

Our Good Jobs Summit highlighted government policies that empower working people. U.S. Department of Labor June 23, 2022 Good Jobs Summit Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh, Deputy Secretary Julie Su and the Families and Workers Fund gathered government, labor and workforce leaders for a Good Jobs Summit this week. The summit, which featured Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, Rep. Bobby Scott, White House Infrastructure Implementation Coordinator Mitch Landrieu and others, highlighted government policies that empower working people. The Departments of Labor and Commerce also released Good Jobs Principles, outlining a path to advance quality jobs for all workers. Read the Secretary's blog post on the Summit Watch the Good Jobs Summit Read the Good Jobs Principles Learn more about the Department of Labor's Good Jobs Initiative $11.4 million to help ensure workers have equitable access to unemployment insurance We're awarding $11,406,000 in grants funded by the American Rescue Plan Act to help Maryland, Nebraska and South Dakota improve the delivery of unemployment insurance services to people who in the past have faced barriers to access. Got an idea for workplace safety and health training? Apply for a grant We're making $11.7 million available in Susan Harwood Training Grants to support workplace safety and health training and education. The grants will target disadvantaged, underserved, low-income, and other hard-to-reach, at-risk workers and employers. 2022 NDEAM theme announced In recognition of the vital role people with disabilities play in making the nation's workforce diverse and inclusive, we've chosen "Disability: Part of the Equity Equation" as the theme for October's National Disability Employment Awareness Month 2022. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT COVID enforcement Anna's employer fired her after she took unpaid leave to deal with COVID-19. The Wage and Hour Division stepped in to help. Grants awarded We've awarded nearly $201.8 million in funding to provide training and employment services to eligible workers affected adversely by foreign trade. Mine safety enforcement We've proposed nearly $1.2 million in penalties after finding an Illinois mine operator tried to conceal an underground fire, endangered miners, and misled investigators about it. Forced labor State-sponsored forced labor of Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minorities in Xinjiang, China, poses a significant threat to global supply chains. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act addresses this threat. Overtime wages A landscaping company and its owner must pay $400,000 in back wages and damages after investigators found the employer denied 32 workers overtime pay. New guidance New guidance outlines limitations for certified employers paying subminimum wages to workers with disabilities under Section 511 of the Rehabilitation Act. Regulatory agenda The latest regulatory agenda offers a snapshot of the regulations we're working on and a roadmap for the future.
