Telehealth improves heart care for Veterans

Heart failure is one of the leading causes of hospitalizations nationwide. 

VA provides care to Veterans with heart failure through its specialized heart failure clinics, pharmacists, and the Remote Patient Monitoring – Home Telehealth (RPM–HT) program. Veterans enrolled in RPM–HT can receive remote monitoring technologies to track their weight, blood pressure and heart rate daily.

From cleaning bathrooms to running a National Cemetery

Before Navy Veteran Victor Vasquez became the director of Santa Fe and Fort Bayard National Cemeteries in New Mexico, he was cleaning bathrooms and emptying trash cans at a VA clinic. 

It all started when he lost his job as a software project manager. He turned to the Compensated Work Therapy Program at the El Paso VA for readjustment help.

"I was going through a lot of turmoil," said Vasquez. "It's a great program. It changed my life and led me to where I am today."
