Crypto, inflation, and COVID all up

And why crypto NEEDS regulation
I've found that many traders have found great success trading alongside the trend, which, of course, comes as no surprise...

But a similar strategy - one that I also use - can provide great profits.

Social momentum.

You could even call it "social arbitrage."

Now, this sounds like a strategy where you simply buy stocks that are trading with great volume, but there's a little more complexity to it than that...

And data analytics are key.

Rather than searching for high volume stocks, you want to add in some market chatter - not for specific stocks, either...

Essentially, you're looking for spikes in interest around a specific industry, or even better, a particular sub-industry.

For instance, when Bitcoin began moving last year, miners and the various crypto-related businesses had only just begun moving.

But if you would have peaked into the data, it would have revealed countless companies and stocks that were completely unknown.

And it's happening again...

But the cryptocurrency world is in a constant state of volatility and even more so now due to the ongoing regulation conversation...

Is it a good thing?

Dr. Moors has been involved in the space for quite a while and his latest article gives us something to chew on, regardless of which side of the debate you're on...

And reading it may prepare you better for what's come...

Check it out at the link below.

WORD ON THE STREET
Senate All-Nighter, SPACs Eating SPACs, DeFi's First Crime

  • Tardy Crypto Provisions Might Miss the Cut - The final edits to the part of the infrastructure bill that has nothing to do with infrastructure is coming down to the wire. Senators tasked with sorting out cryptocurrencies say they're close to finalizing the details, but lawmakers are scheduled to vote on the bill as early as Monday night although a Tuesday vote is more likely. The hang-up has largely stemmed from debate on the current verbiage regarding how cryptocurrency is reported to the IRS, which many experts including Twitter (TWTR) and Square (SQ) CEO Jack Dorsey have claimed to be vague. As it is currently written, miners and other crypto infrastructure companies would be held responsible for reporting tax data unrelated to their business.

  • Kings Doing King Things - Only less than a year after de-SPACing, Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG) is being acquired by another former SPAC, DraftKings (DKNG). The agreement was announced early Monday morning in which DraftKings will acquire the company in an all-stock deal valued at roughly $1.6 billion. DraftKings CEO Jason Robins stated that Golden Nugget's iGaming service will give them access to "a broader consumer base" in online gaming and entertainment and provide additional cross-sell opportunities, according to the company's press release.
  • DeFined by the SEC - With the SEC extending its reach into the cryptocurrency space, Blockchain Credit Partners, a DeFi (decentralized finance) firm, is now the first company to be fined by the SEC in its industry. Known for creating the world's first private tokenized fund where investors can invest via digital assets, Blockchain Credit Partners is being charged with selling over $30 million in unregistered securities. The company was issued a cease-and-desist order and will pay back $12.85 million while each of the founders must pay $125,000 in penalties. They should ask if they can pay in Bitcoin.

  • Berkshire Hathaway Visits "Buffett" Line, Again - Shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A/B) stock were either elated or perturbed by the Oracle of Omaha's recent actions noted in the company's second quarter earnings report. The report showed  a cash and cash equivalents position of $140.7 billion and that Berkshire's largest investment was in the company itself as it continued buying back shares for a total of $6 billion, almost mirroring the buyback during the previous quarter. At least he didn't buy Nikola (NKLA).

HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics

  • Protest In Poland Against Belarus Government - Hundreds of people, many of them exiles from Belarus, protested against the government of Alexander Lukashenko. However, despite some high profile protesters, the regime appears secure for now. Dissidents admit they were not ready for what one called the "hell" the regime was prepared to unleash.

  • Russia/China Drill Underway - In China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, more than 10,000 troops from two geopolitical titans will be conducting a joint military exercise. It's a powerful symbol of unity and defiance against the United States. It will also be the first joint drill held by the burgeoning Chinese military since the pandemic began.

  • USA Wins Gold Medal Count - It took a comeback near the end of the event, but the United States of America won more medals and more gold medals than any other country. Triumphs in women's basketball and cycling helped put Team USA over the top. However, the Olympics had bigger problems - TV ratings plummeted by almost 50% compared to last time.
CUTTING EDGE: What's Happening In Tech

  • "Flippy" The Robot Comes To Fast Food - This was something we saw coming for some time. Amid demands for higher wages and an ongoing labor shortage, robots are coming to fast food. Among them is "Flippy," a robot being used by White Castle southeast of Chicago. It makes fries (as I'm sure you've already guessed.)

  • Ketamine Earns ALS Orphan Drug Designation - It's one of the biggest emerging stories in biotech. Ketamine, a psychedelic occasionally used for treating major depression or chronic pain, has earned orphan drug designation from the FDA in treating ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. Ketamine could prove to be neuroprotective. PharmaTher, among others, is pursuing this avenue of treatment for this disease.

  • Separate Beds Better For Married Couples? - Studies show that about a third of Americans aren't getting at least seven hours of sleep a night. One reason if you are married - sleeping in the same bed. New research shows that sleeping in separate beds might actually have health benefits in the form of better sleep quality for married couples. Of course, good luck bringing up this topic with your partner.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

"Leading the list here is the absolutely essential requirement that it becomes a reliable instrument. That cannot happen without regulation, whether digital purists prefer to hear that or not."

The infrastructure bill has come to a halt over the unexpected issue of regulating cryptocurrency. However, this isn't just an academic debate. Regulation is key to the future of the sector - and might even be desirable. Dr. Kent Moors presents the case for getting Uncle Sam involved.
