Good morning. Online auction site eBay (EBAY) became huge in the 1990s thanks to the demand for Beanie Babies. As the central site for that fad, the company was able to expand and survive the internet bubble.

Now, the company is looking to enable cryptocurrency payments, to better serve its customers. It's also looking to break into the NFT, or non-fungible token market. NFTs are digital assets like a picture or song. While they can be copied, blockchain data provides the owner of the NFT with the assurance that they are, in fact, the original owner. NFTs have been big business so far this year, and show one of many applications for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

CD&R Investment Associates, a major holder in Beacon Roofing Supply (BECN) recently added 563,611 shares to their holdings. The buy increased the fund's stake by over 4 percent, and came to a purchase price of just over $30 million.

Insiders at the company have largely been sellers in the past few months. Shares have nearly tripled since the pandemic low, thanks to rising home prices. This marks the first insider buy since last May.

Shares of casino giant Las Vegas Sands (LVS) have largely traded in a range from the high $50s to the mid $60s in the past few months. One trader sees shares moving to the higher end of their range (or better) in the coming month.

Auto Industry Begins Stockpiling Supplies

After half a century of "just in time" manufacturing, automakers have shifted towards stockpiling key supplies for some parts. The reason? Shortages in everything from semiconductors to batteries. Stockpiling can help reduce the impact of sudden swings in supply and demand, although it can run the risk of leaving a company with obsolescent parts.

Greg Abel has been named the successor for Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A). Current CEO Warren Buffett has turned 90, but has not mentioned any plans to step down. Abel is currently CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, and is the vice-chairman of the company's non-insurance operations.
Gabelli Sees Value in SPACs

Value investor Mario Gabelli is looking to avoid having high cash balance. To that end, he's looking towards SPACs. Also known as special purpose acquisition companies, SPACs have been out of favor with the market in recent months. Gabelli sees a "silver lining" to these companies as they strike deals, and that the alternative, keeping money in cash, isn't an attractive one.
Apollo Acquires Verizon Media for $5 Billion

Private equity giant Apollo has made a bid to buy Verizon Media assets for $5 billion. It will rename the business Yahoo, and will continue to be run under its current leadership. Verizon (VZ) will keep a 10 percent stake in the remaining company. Verizon originally paid over $9 billion for the assets of AOL and Yahoo between 2015 and 2017, which became Verizon Media.
Ethereum Hits Record High

Ethereum prices topped $3,000 over the weekend, hitting a market cap of $367 billion. The cryptocurrency has now risen 325 percent year to date, far outpacing the returns on Bitcoin. Ethereum has been the cryptocurrency of choice for assets such as non-fungible tokens, or NFTs.
