The federal investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) continues, and prosecutors are seeking the cooperation of a former Capitol Hill intern who was once Gaetz's girlfriend. They're also close to formally meeting with Joel Greenberg; the former Florida county tax collector is likely to strike a plea deal with the government this week. [CNN / Paula Reid, Gloria Borger, Pamela Brown, and Jeremy Herb] The investigation into Gaetz appears to have grown in scope since it first was reported in March, from sex trafficking to potential government corruption charges for engaging in a quid pro quo with Florida cannabis producers.  [The Guardian / Richard Luscomb] Much of the investigation centers on a trip Gaetz took to the Bahamas with cannabis entrepreneur Jason Pirozzolo, in which the latter paid for travel, accommodations, and female escorts. Gaetz has historically been an advocate of medical cannabis consumption. [Jordan Williams / The Hill] Gaetz has remained defiant since word of the federal probe hit airwaves. He recently embarked on the "America First Tour" with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). It kicked off Friday at the Villages, a large retirement community in Florida. "And I already know how CNN is gonna report it. 'Matt Gaetz has wild party surrounded by beautiful women in The Villages.'" [Mother Jones / Stephanie Mencimer] Israeli airstrikes kill 28 people in Gaza; rockets fired by Hamas kill 2 Tensions in the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem turned lethal on Monday night. Hundreds of rockets fired by Hamas resulted in the deaths of 2 women in Southern Israel. IDF authorities responded with airstrikes that killed 28 people in Gaza, including 10 children. [Associated Press / Fares Akram and Josef Federman] The rockets followed days of escalating anger and protest among Palestinians regarding Israeli control of the Al Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem; both Jews and Palestinians consider it a holy site. On Monday morning, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at Muslim worshippers and protesters, who threw stones and chairs. [CBS News / Tucker Reals] But unrest has been brewing for much longer. For weeks, Palestinians had been protesting government plans to remove them from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem. Schools in some parts of Israel shut down Tuesday as armed conflict extended into its second day. 5,000 IDF reserve troops have been mobilized by Defense Minister Benny Gantz. [Washington Post / Steve Hendrix and Shira Rubin]  Since Hamas seized power in Gaza in 2007, Israel and the militant group have fought three wars. Hamas said its use of rockets will continue unabated "unless the occupation stops all manifestations of aggression and terror in Jerusalem and the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque."
