MAKE SOME NOISE   Barangay workers and residents in Bagong Silang, Quezon City, take part in the "Iwas Paputoxic" campaign of EcoWaste Coalition to promote a safe celebration to welcome the New Year. They encourage the use of pots, "torotot" (horns) and other noisemakers instead of harmful firecrackers during the revelry. —LYN RILLON

Hi there. Marcos signs P6.326T 2025 budget, vetoes P194B

Did he listen? After the budget drew public ire for its alleged excesses, the President says the signed measure — with some P26.065-B DPWH projects and P168.240B "unprogrammed appropriations" vetoed, among others — is proof that "we listened to you."

An office with a "torture chamber" still sporting bloodstains and footprints — the gravity of crimes tied to the POGO industry, including scamming, human trafficking, kidnapping, extortion, and violence, can still be seen in their sinister former hubs.

Avoid processed food, smoking, vaping. Drink more water. Cut back on alcohol. Find time to exercise. Get enough sleep. These are some essential healthy habits that health advocates and the DOH are urging Filipinos to pick up this 2025.

Former US President Jimmy Carter has died at 100.The longest lived American chief executive survived a crushing reelection defeat by building a reputation for tireless work as a global humanitarian, earning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Who are the biggest winners and losers of 2024? For columnist Richard Heydarian, that would be Senators Raffy Tulfo and Risa Hontiveros and former VP Leni Robredo in the former, and the now-flailing Duterte dynasty in the latter.

Walking Utah's arches and finding Butch Cassidy

Camping aficionados Charro Jambalos and Michael Levin planned a trip so I, a noncamper, could experience roughing it in America's wilderness during my visit. I took up the gauntlet, stoked to take in nature's wonders and blissfully unaware of the challenges to my urban sensitivities, the least of them being unable to shower for days.

'Europe can help build defense industries in PH' to counter China–ex-AFP chief

Europe can play an important economic and security role in Asia amid the rising challenges posed by China in the region, a retired Philippine military chief said. China continues to undermine the rules-based international order in the South China Sea, and there is "no one else who can better understand the implications of that than the Europeans," retired Gen. Emmanuel Bautista.
