The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved a new section 1115 demonstration for the State of California entitled "Behavioral Health Community-Based Organized Networks of Equitable Care and Treatment" (BH-CONNECT). Approval of this demonstration gives authority to the state to provide new initiatives related to strengthening the behavioral health workforce, incentivizing improvements in the behavioral health delivery system, promoting services addressing health-related social needs (HRSN), supporting the health of children and youth involved in the child welfare system, providing transitional care management services to support individuals with significant behavioral health needs who are returning to the community, and providing treatment for serious mental illness (SMI). This demonstration will also authorize expenditure authority for Designated State Health Programs (DSHP) to support Workforce Initiatives.

The demonstration is effective through December 31, 2029. Today's approval and other administrative documents can be found on the Medicaid.gov demonstration page.
