Updated Resource: How to Test Electronic Health Care Transactions for HIPAA Compliance Fact Sheet The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) National Standards Group (NSG), on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), has released an updated How to Test Electronic Health Care Transactions for HIPAA Compliance Fact Sheet (PDF), which provides an overview of how to test an electronic health care transaction in the Administrative Simplification Enforcement and Testing Tool (ASETT) for compliance with HIPAA Administrative Simplification standards. The fact sheet outlines the steps for testing a transaction, provides information on transactions and ASETT, and lays out where users can find additional support. ASETT is a free web-based application that allows users to test their own electronic health care transactions or their trading partners' transactions for compliance with the adopted Accredited Standards Committee X12 or National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) implementation guides. Allowing users to test electronic health care transactions for compliance is one way NSG helps HIPAA covered entities comply with adopted standards for health care transactions. Users can also file a complaint in ASETT about alleged HIPAA Administrative Simplification standards violations, but they are not required to do so to test transactions.
