Upcoming NIMHD Events ScHARe Think-a-Thon: A Special Introduction for American Indian and Alaska Native Communities August 29, 2023 | 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. ET | Virtual NIMHD will host a special introduction to ScHARe for anyone interested in how this new cloud computing and research collaboration platform can be used by researchers, educators, and students who live in or serve American Indian and Alaska Native communities on August 29. NIMHD staff show how ScHARe provides access to datasets and tools for analysis of Tribal data; adheres to strong data sovereignty and privacy policies; and offers hands-on data science trainings, including in artificial intelligence bias mitigation. ScHARe Think-a-Thons welcome participants from all career levels, disciplines, and levels of background knowledge. Upcoming NIH Events The Evolution of Mental Health Research Symposium September 13, 2023 | 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. ET | Online and In-Person Starting in September 2023, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) will celebrate 75 years of transforming the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses. The celebration launches with the "Evolution of Mental Health Research" symposium, which highlights key advances in mental health research over the past 75 years. This symposium offers a unique opportunity to gain insights from distinguished thought leaders and learn how developments in neuroscience, genetics, and behavioral research are leading to exciting new discoveries shaping the future of mental health research. NCPCR Learning Series Upcoming Events The Network for Community-Engaged Primary Care Research (NCPCR) Learning Series introduces experts in the fields of biomedical research and practice-based medicine to share their insights and expertise with the community. Our goal is to virtually bring community members together and transform health care through the exchange of information, the latest advancements in medical research, and providing insightful tips for better practices. Accessing Secondary Data Sources to Tell Community Stories Data When: September 27, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. ET Where: Virtual Featuring: Peter Baltrus, Ph.D. Culture-Centered Dietary Interventions to Address Chronic Diseases The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, in collaboration with other Institutes and Offices at the National Institutes of Health and federal partners, is organizing this two-day online workshop. The goal of these workshops is to review the state of the science and provide recommendations for future research on the development and implementation of culture-centered dietary interventions among diverse communities. The virtual workshops are designed to be intense, interactive, and free-thinking, involving a broad range of individuals. They will be organized in two sequential stages, "Visioning" and "Ideation Minilabs," with each stage building on the outcomes of the previous stage. Workshop dates: Thursday, September 28, 2023, Time: 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. ET Friday, September 29, 2023, Time: 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. ET Upcoming Non-NIH Events Unequal Treatment Revisited: Part 3 September 6, 2023, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. ET | Virtual On September 6, 2023, the National Academies' ad hoc Committee on Unequal Treatment Revisited will host the third public workshop in a virtual series examining federal efforts and initiatives aimed at reducing racial and ethnic group inequities in health care access, utilization, and quality. Leaders from several government agencies will provide insights and answer questions during a panel discussion. This workshop series is part of a consensus study that will examine the current state of racial and ethnic group health care disparities in the U.S., building on the 2003 Institute of Medicine consensus report, "Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care."
