Authorities said Thursday that quick-thinking bystanders in southern California assisted in rescuing an out-of-state kidnapping victim holding up a sign that read "help me" inside a car. The 13-year-old victim, a girl, was allegedly abducted from a bus stop in San Antonio, Texas, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department. On July 6, the girl allegedly had been forced into a car while being threatened with a gun. When Long Beach police officers arrived at a 911 call on July 9, they discovered the teen to be "visibly emotional and distressed." Investigating officers found that Good Samaritans were in a parking lot when they saw the victim in a parked vehicle holding a sheet of paper with "help me" written on it. They "immediately" called 911, police said. Officers located and arrested the man suspected of kidnapping the teen. (read more) |

Musk is realizing the gravity of what he's unleashed upon the world. | Elon Musk, the man who never stops pushing boundaries just did something astonishing… He just unleashed this new project… One that an ex-google engineer says is more powerful than the atomic bomb… And now... he's having his own "Oppenheimer moment"... Because, just like J. Robert Oppenheimer when he created the atomic bomb… …Musk is realizing the gravity of what he's unleashed upon the world. Yes, a lot of people will get rich from this new project… But I believe those who don’t prepare could soon be trapped in an economic death spiral. I believe they’ll fall behind and might never be able to catch up. Goldman Sachs economists are already warning that 300 million jobs could simply disappear. One industry insider even warned that "Nobody is safe." Millions of Americans will end up on the losing side of this paradigm shift… But you do NOT have to be one of them.

A federal judge in Oregon preserved a state limit on gun ownership that many consider to be the strictest in the country. U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut ruled on Friday that Oregon's law is consistent with the Second Amendment because it follows a U.S. tradition of "regulating uniquely dangerous features of weapons and firearms to protect public safety." In a statement put to their website, the Oregon Firearms Association, which initially sued claiming the statute was unconstitutional, expressed outrage at the ruling. Oregon's law is one of several contentious gun-control bills being challenged in courts throughout the country. Illinois is likewise fighting to enact an assault weapons prohibition. (read more)

A woman in Virginia is alive to tell the story of being attacked by a fox. Shirley Phillips was cleaning out her vehicle one day when a fox attacked her out of the blue. "All of a sudden, I felt something rub up against my ankle and I thought it was the cat next door," Phillips said. "It was fuzzy." But it actually turned out to be a gray fox. By the time she realized it was, the fox attacked her. The fox bit her ankle first, then it bit her hands when she was trying to pry the animal off of her legs. The fox, which turned out to be rabid, would not release no matter how much she tried to shake or sling it off of her hands. And that's when she decided to fight back in a different way. Phillips had the idea to take a page out of the fox's book and bite it back. Here's what happened when she sunk her teeth in the fox during the tussle. (read more) |

Eighteen-year-old Jazmin Paez is facing charges of first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree using a communications device for an unlawful use after trying to hire a hitman to kill her 3-year-old son.
