Two new reports focus on their economic realities and policies that would support their financial wellbeing. Mental health is a workplace priority The Biden-Harris administration hosted a roundtable this week on how the federal government can support employee wellness and mental health, including access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment. More violations lead to another $3.4M in fines for Dollar General OSHA found Dollar General exposed workers to multiple hazards during nine inspections at locations in Maine, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin, leading to an additional $3.4 million in proposed penalties. Since 2017, the retailer has amassed more than $21 million in proposed fines. Electrical safety precautions save miners' lives Electricity is a serious hazard that exposes miners to dangers such as electric shock, electrocution, fires and explosions. Implementing lockout-tagout measures is essential to prevent further accidents and keep miners safe. Safety and health grants available We're making millions in grants available, including: More than $12.7 million to support workplace safety and health training Up to $1 million to support education and training related to mine safety and health 🌡️ Cool for the summer As temperatures continue to rise, OSHA is reminding employers and workers that heat-related illnesses can be prevented by common-sense safety measures. Showcasing innovative federal technology The department hosted Federal Tech Day 2023 on May 18 in partnership with the Department of Energy and U.S. Chief Information Officers Council. More than a dozen agencies participated, hosting interactive displays to show how they're using technology to advance their missions and serve the public.
