A Florida mayor turned in his resignation during a tense budget meeting. He said he made the quick decision due to concerns over his colleagues' direction with city funds. Clearwater's Mayor Frank Hibbard called for a five-minute recess Monday and made the announcement afterward. Before the recess, the council had been discussing how to pay for a $250 million shortfall for about 30 projects, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Hibbard had pushed back against spending $90 million for a new city hall and municipal services complex. At the same time, his four colleagues said it was their top priority for Clearwater, which has a population of about 116,000 people and is 23 miles from Tampa on Florida's Gulf Coast. He called his resignation one of the toughest decisions he's had to make. (learn more) | |

On Thursday, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York had a temper tantrum on the House floor over the Parents Bill of Rights, which was sponsored by Republicans. According to a summary of the bill posted by the Library of Congress, sponsored by Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA), schools receiving federal funding would be required to inform parents and guardians of their rights regarding the education of their children. Under the proposed law, parents and guardians will have access to information about their children's education, including information about the curriculum, teachers, and library materials. The late Kenneth "Kenne" Joseph Pluhar Jr.'s obituary is going viral, and it's because of his daughter's brutally honest way of writing the piece. Halliea Milner, who owns the Go With It Farm in Sandy Springs, Georgia, shared the 715 word obituary that she wrote for her father on Facebook. It quickly gained a lot of attention. According to Milner, Pluhar died at the age of 62, after a battle with sepsis. But then the obituary took a turn, and became a brutal, but in some ways hilarious, reflection from Pluhar's daughter. "Like every sad cowboy song, he couldn't stay married, but that didn't keep him from trying. Again. And again." Milner wrote of her father's relationships. "He had a total of 4 legal marriages (and divorces) and one common law marriage under his belt - that we know of." "Kenne had a green thumb, was outdoorsy and was a skilled carpenter - this meant that he was great at growing his own weed and was champion of 'hide and seek for $2k a week' when he worked for the union," Milner continued. And that just scratches the surface of what Milner wrote about her father. Here are some of the other shocking highlights from the brutal obit. (read more) |

According to Harvard scientist Avi Loeb and a Pentagon official Sean M. Kirkpatrick, there could be a mothership hovering around our solar system. The pair say that it is possible that an extraterrestrial spaceship is exploring the region by means of "dandelion seeds." The draft Physical Constraints on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena was released on March 7. While it is not an official Pentagon document, it was carried out in partnership with the DoD. Astronomers first detected a cigar-shaped object back in 2017. Originally they believed it to be a comet, but its movements and shape made Loeb question if it was actually a spaceship. Here's why they suggest the aliens would be interested in exploring Earth and what critics of the theory are saying. (read more) |
