NIH to Host Workshop on Using Public Engagement to Inform the Use of Data in Biomedical Research NIH will be hosting a workshop on February 27, 2023, to discuss how public feedback can help inform the use of new types of data (e.g., wearable devices, smart sensors, social media), new types of analysis (e.g., artificial intelligence and machine learning), and data linkage and aggregation in research. The meeting will feature discussion panels to share key points and themes from community conversations NIH has held across the country on the uses of personal health data in research. The panels will also feature discussion from ethicists, biomedical researchers, technology engineers and developers, public health experts, and clinician researchers who might utilize novel technologies to generate data. The discussions will be used to help inform deliberations related to the latest charge to the Novel and Exceptional Technology and Research Advisory Committee. It will also help inform the NIH Office of Science Policy's ongoing efforts to ensure public engagement is at the foundation of policy development. The workshop will begin at 12:00 pm ET and end at 8:00 pm ET and be webcast to the public. Additionally, opportunities to raise questions for discussion during the meeting will be provided for members of the public. Full information, including agenda and webcast information, can be found here. RADx® Tech Webinar Series RADx Tech Accessible Tests Program: Best Practices Since early 2022, RADx Tech has been working to make COVID-19 home tests more accessible (a previous webinar addressed these efforts). During this work, the team has captured what's been learned (from knowledgeable evaluators, designers, subject matter experts, and vendors in the field) in a best practices document. While a comprehensive document is anticipated in Spring 2023, an early edition of these best practices, with insights so far, was published in December 2022. Join us for a webinar on February 28, 2023, at 2PM ET to learn more about this program. Register for this event by February 26 here. Additional information about past webinars can be found here. DataWorks! Prize Winners Announced and Upcoming Seminar In May 2022, the Office of Data Science Strategy (ODSS) partnered with the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) to launch the DataWorks! Prize to highlight examples of innovative data sharing and reuse. Researchers were invited to share their story of how reused or shared data furthered biological and/or biomedical research efforts. Prize winners, including NIBIB-supported PhysioNet Challenges and MIT Critical Data, were recently announced. On March 10, 2023, representatives from grand prize winning teams will present at the Data Sharing and Reuse Seminar Series. Learn more and register for the seminar here. To share best practices in data sharing and reuse and celebrate the achievements of the DataWorks! Prize participants, a symposium will be held on April 25, 2023. For more information and to preregister for the symposium, click here. An ODSS blog post that details the winners of the DataWorks! Challenge can be found here. |
