Three people are dead, and five others are injured after a shooting at multiple locations on Michigan State University's East Lansing campus Monday night. The suspect has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The injured victims have been transported to a hospital, MSU Police and Public Safety said during a press briefing. All five remain in critical condition, Interim Michigan State Deputy Police Chief Chris Rozman said during a press briefing. "There is no longer a threat on campus," Rozman said at a news conference. As a result, an earlier shelter-in-place order issued by police for the East Lansing campus was lifted. Police initially received 911 calls of shots fired at 8:18 p.m. in Berkey Hall and located several victims there when responding. Police then received a report of another shooting and responded to the MSU Union building, where they found additional victims. The suspect was a 43-year-old with no known affiliation with the school. According to Rozman, the police "had no idea why he came on campus to do this tonight." (read more)

Conservative news outlets are reporting that former Vice President Mike Pence plans to ignore a subpoena from the Justice Department demanding that he testify about former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. On Tuesday morning, a source close to the former vice president told Fox News that Pence intends to fight the subpoena issued last week by Special Counsel Jack Smith regarding the Jan. 6 investigation into Trump, arguing that he should be exempt from the order because he was president of the Senate at the time. Pence seems unlikely to use executive privilege at this time.
Allies of the ex-vice president told Politico he is protected by the "speech and debate clause," which states that members of Congress are immune from liability for statements made during legislative activities. In the ongoing probe into potential efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, Pence is the latest member of Trump's administration to be subpoenaed. (read more)

A Georgia man is making headlines after he accidentally shot himself during what's being described as a road rage incident. It all started when a truck carrying lumber was trying to make a delivery off of Buchanan Drive in Dallas, Georgia. The truck ended up blocking the intersection in order to make the delivery, so two people with reflective vests were directing traffic to keep things moving. But one man got impatient and reportedly exited his vehicle and began yelling at the people directing traffic, all while pointing his handgun at them. He then stormed back to his vehicle and somehow accidentally shot himself in the hand while getting back in the car. The man yelled at witnesses to call 911, but then sped away and left the scene. Here's where cops found him, how he's doing today, and how he managed to shoot himself by accident. (read more) |
