TOP NEWS GOP-led states want to keep Trump border rule Drew Angerer/Getty Images Monday, 15 Republican-led states asked a federal judge to keep in place a pandemic-era rule that allows US officials to turn away migrants at the southern border. [NBC News / Julia Ainsley and Summer Concepcion] The judge previously ruled the policy, known as Title 42, is unlawful because it endangers people fleeing violence, and doesn't prevent the spread of Covid-19. The restrictions are set to end on December 21. [New York Times / Miriam Jordan] The states argued that ending the rule would cause financial harm because they would have to shoulder the costs of an expected increase in migration. [Axios / Stef W. Kight] Since March 2020, the US has expelled 2.4 million migrants to Mexico or their home countries without filing asylum claims under the emergency public health measure.
