My annual report is out.

Hello Amazing
I am finally done with my Annual Report 2021—a collection of stories from a year shaped by breakup and divorce. There are stories of grief and faith, coats and shoes, decay and repair.
It has taken longer to write this year, which has been a good reminder for me that the purpose of writing isn't to publish. The goal isn't to write the best report. What's important for me is how the act of writing has an impact on myself. It's a quest of owning my own story. Taking responsibility for what happened.
An image of decay, a recurring aesthetic theme.

A torn seam. Was the breakup inevitable? Could I have used a stronger thread?
A torn seam. Was the breakup inevitable? Could I have used a stronger thread?
There are two stories that stand out for me this year. The first is the story about thread (p. 10) which explores an old memory and a fabulous jacket in an exploration of the perhaps most challenging question of a breakup: was this inevitable? And would I have done anything different?
The other is a story about faith and angels (p. 35). In my faith there's lots of doubt—so much that I see the doubt as my main entrance into faith. But, this past year I've been overwhelmed with a kind of support that I struggle to explain outside of a religious frame.
In this past year I've felt carried by angels.

You can flip through the report in 30 seconds or spend 10 minutes. Do what inspires you.
With love
—Mathias
