Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... Putin's offering to stabilize this market. It could mean trouble in the long run One of the biggest reasons that critics opposed the Russia-to-Europe Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was because it opens up a whole can of worms for the future. By creating an energy dependence on Russia, Putin's playing a very dangerous long game. If, at any point, Europe becomes too dependent on Russia for energy, Putin (or any future leader) could easily use that to sway any global issues firmly in his favor.
Nevertheless, in July President Biden agreed to allow the pipeline's completion without imposing any further U.S. sanctions. Chancellor Merkel of Germany and Biden agreed to counter any attempt by Russia to use the pipeline as a political weapon — but it's a lot easier said than done.
Now, Putin is offering to stabilize global energy markets. But will that just make everyone more dependent on the whim of a man who poisons and jails his political opponents? Russia is the one country capable of increasing gas flows substantially to European markets, where the shortage of gas is greatest, at short notice. However, the newly-completed Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which gas monopoly Gazprom would use for such additional flows, is still awaiting certification from German regulators before it can ship gas.
These are the key twists in the Gabby Petito case that have recently been revealed Along with the rest of the nation, us writers at Seven at 7 have been anxiously awaiting more information on the Gabby Petito case, as her boyfriend-turned-fugitive Brian Laundrie, remains missing. A series of twists have come to light recently — his parents changed their story, the Petito family lawyer made a pretty big claim, and a new wrinkle in the timeline of events was revealed.
This is what we know so far: The Laundrie family attorney recently revealed that the 23-year-old probably went missing earlier than they initially said. According to Steve Bertolino, he was last seen on September 13, not September 14: "The Laundries were basing the date Brian left on their recollection of certain events. Upon further communication with the FBI and confirmation of the Mustang being at the Laundrie residence on Wednesday, September 15, we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday, Sept. 13."
Earlier this week, Laundrie's sister, Cassie, claimed her brother had actually made a trip home on August 17, before reuniting with Gabby in Utah. Bertolino said he returned to get supplies, and get rid of a storage unit in an attempt to get some money. The news alters the timeline of events we all thought we knew. But perhaps the most damning twist of all is that the Petito family lawyer said that Laundrie had been using her bank card to make a slew of purchases before he returned home without her. The FBI issued a warrant for his arrest because of fraudulent charges, but they stopped short of saying whose card he stole. Cassie has urged her brother to come forward, as has a former fugitive who spent 20 years in a federal prison.
Some in Michigan push to be latest state to join the Popular Vote Compact and reject the Electoral College Michigan has experienced being a battleground and non-battleground state in the same election cycle, former state Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis recalled, referring to when 2008 GOP nominee John McCain closed shop there to devote resources in states where he was more competitive.
Anuzis and former Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer launched the "Yes on National Popular Vote" ballot initiative last week to add Michigan's 15 electoral votes to the compact. The initiative has to collect 340,047 Michigan voter signatures in 180 days to appear on the 2022 ballot.
If the Michigan petition drive is successful, it would mark only the second time voters made the determination. In 2020, Colorado voters decided on a vote of 52% to join the popular vote compact, short of the 57% that backed Joe Biden over Donald Trump in blue Colorado. That indicates that even though support for the Electoral College in recent years has broken along party lines, a decisive majority could be a challenge.
