MONTREAL — Justin Trudeau will stay on as Canada's prime minister, though it remains to be seen if his Liberal government will return to majority status.
Votes are still being counted across the country.
The first polls closed in Atlantic Canada in the early evening local time, and indications suggested the Conservatives were making inroads. But when polls closed in a huge swath of more than 200 seats stretching from Quebec to Alberta, early returns heavily favored the Liberals, enough that every major network declared Trudeau the victor.
