🤙 One Quad Down, Three to Go

Good morning. The third Friday of the month for every quarter of the year sparks an event known..
It's the monthly jobs numbers today and they're not going to be pretty and will be possibly the tip of the iceberg as we head into May.

Good morning. The third Friday of the month for every quarter of the year sparks an event known as quadruple witching, or quad witching. That's when markets settle for stock index futures, stock index options, regular stock options, and single stock futures. The combination of so many derivatives expiring can sometimes lead to some large moves, especially with so many new investors starting to trade options to get a better return than stocks.

The first quarter of 2021's were relatively calm, as shown by a stock market exhibiting little of the volatility of sessions in prior weeks. Now, with funds making their quarterly rebalancing buys and sells, the market may likely shake off some of its recent volatility and calm down for a few weeks.

Have you been making more options trades in the past year to take advantage of this increased volatility?

Hit reply and share your thoughts. And thanks for sharing your thoughts so far!

Accounting Issues? No Problem for this Beloved Power Company
Shares of Plug Power (PLUG) took a steep dive last week, as the company announced it needed to restate some of its prior years of accounting.

However, that hasn't stopped analysts from looking beyond the short-term fears. They continue to see long-term opportunity. In fact, one analyst from B. Riley cites the old mantra of buying "when there's blood in the streets," even though shares only pulled back about 8 percent on the news.

Fed Ends SLR Relief for Banks

In another sign of a recovering economy, the Federal Reserve allowed its supplementary leverage ratio (SLR) relaxation end. The bank undertook the change last April to allow banks to better manage their balance sheets at the start of the pandemic lockdown. Easing the rule allowed banks to have their deposits at Fed banks exempt from bank-capital requirements.
China Moves to Restrict Tesla Vehicles

Citing security concerns, regulators in China are moving to restrict the use of vehicles made by Tesla Motors (TSLA). The belief is that the car's cameras collect images and data that could be sent back to the U.S. The move also occurs as political tensions between the U.S. and China have risen in recent weeks, particularly involving the sale and adoption of technologies.
Shareholders Reject CEO Pay Proposal at Starbucks

Shareholders usually have to go along with a company's management. So it's unusual to see shareholders reject a proposal. Yet that just happened with Starbucks (SBUX). The issue? CEO pay. Typically, these issues are non-binding, and a company's board of directors may increase CEO pay anyway, in the interest of retaining an executive. In this case, it may be a sign that shareholders see the CEO as overpaid.
Visa Stumbles Following DOJ Probe

The Department of Justice is looking into whether Visa (V) unlawfully curbed the ability of merchants to use less-expensive networks when making debit-card transactions. While the credit card players are an oligopoly, Visa leads on transaction share. A probe may not result in any fines or other corrective measures, but shares dropped on the news.

This is the strongest seller's market since at least 2006. Buyers outnumber sellers by such a huge margin that many homeowners are staying put because they know how hard it would be to find a place to move to.
