Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer agreed to a two-week delay of former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial, allowing the chamber to handle President Joe Biden's Cabinet nominations in the meantime.
The timeline was sought by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who argued that the ex-president's legal team should be given sufficient time to prepare for the trial.
The House will send the impeachment article, which charges Trump with inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, on Monday night, and senators will be sworn in on Tuesday.
The House managers and Trump's legal team will then spend two weeks drafting their legal briefs, with the trial expected to begin the week of Feb. 8.
