Straus Distinguished Lecture in the Science of Complementary Therapies "All Health Is Not Created Equal: Where You Live Matters." Speaker: Shannon N. Zenk, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., F.A.A.N. Director, National Institute of Nursing Research Date: Wednesday, December 9, 2020 Time: Noon–1 p.m. ET Location: NIH Videocast Register now through Eventbrite There's a saying that "you are what you eat," but maybe it should be "you are WHERE you eat." Social and economic factors, such as where a person lives, powerfully influence people's health. This applies to things such as housing conditions, availability of green space, and access to healthy food. Such factors impact our risk of exposure and susceptibility to many diseases and conditions as well as other health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. Dr. Zenk will explore the science behind social determinants of health, share how to better understand what affects people's health and drives health disparities, and discuss the development of effective interventions (including integrative or multilevel approaches) to improve the public's health and address health inequities. |
