Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the latest enrollment figures for Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). These programs serve as key connectors to care for more millions of Americans. Medicare As of September 2024, 67,962,377 people are enrolled in Medicare. This is an increase of 160,454 since the last report. - 33,644,475 are enrolled in Original Medicare.
- 34,317,902 are enrolled in Medicare Advantage or other health plans. This includes enrollment in Medicare Advantage plans with and without prescription drug coverage.
- 54,627,397 are enrolled in Medicare Part D. This includes enrollment in stand-alone prescription drug plans as well as Medicare Advantage plans that offer prescription drug coverage.
Over 8 million individuals are full-benefit dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, so are counted in the enrollment figures for both programs. The data now include counts of Part D enrollees receiving the low-income subsidy and enrollee counts by coverage type, demographic characteristics, and dual eligibility. This is a decrease of 77,654 since the last report. - 72,164,758 are enrolled in Medicaid

The Medicaid and CHIP Eligibility Operations and Enrollment Snapshot is a new monthly product, the purpose of which is to streamline the number of data products, while maintaining the same level of transparency into eligibility and enrollment outcomes as the previously released data products. CMS releases this Snapshot on a monthly-basis, providing current month and retrospective data to convey a national and state-specific picture of Medicaid and CHIP eligibility and enrollment operations, as well as Marketplace and Basic Health Program (BHP) Enrollment. CMS releases additional data on a quarterly-basis, including data on separate CHIP program enrollment and updated renewal outcomes.
