The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved a five-year extension of Kentucky's section 1115 demonstration, "TEAMKY." This approval allows the state to continue to provide (1) substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and withdrawal management services for individuals residing in an institution for mental diseases (IMD), (2) coverage for former foster care youth who turned 18 on or before December 31, 2022, under age 26, who were in foster care under the responsibility of another state or tribe when they turned 18, and (3) authority for the reentry demonstration initiative.

This extension also includes two amendments that allow Kentucky to provide (1) medically necessary short-term inpatient treatment services for Medicaid eligible adults with serious mental illness residing in settings that qualify as IMDs, (2) episodic housing interventions under a Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) initiative, and (3) Recovery Residence Support Services, which are non-clinical activities necessary to support beneficiaries recovering from SUD.

The demonstration is effective through December 31, 2029. Today's approval and other administrative documents can be found on the Medicaid.gov demonstration page.
