Your Saturday Stoic Review — Week of November 11 - November 17
Each yesterday you tear off is gone, dead. There's something sad about that. And while there is a little grief as you look at the next page, it also presents you an opportunity, a chance to begin afresh, afresh, afresh. Unless you waste it. Unless you let it pass by unaware. Then it too dies, and the loss is written down in your rings of grain, never to return.
In a recent video on theDaily Stoic YouTube channel, Ryan Holiday speaks to the U.S. Naval Academy on using Stoicism to propel both your career and lifestyle:
"If you're going around wanting to be liked, wanting to be appreciated, wanting to be recognized and rewarded right now for what you're doing, you're probably setting yourself up for a life of disappointment and frustration. If you're doing the things that are right because they're right, because that's how you sleep at night, because that's what you think you're put here to do, that's a much more resilient, sustainable, and I think, impressive way to go about one's career and one's life."
In a recent episode of The Daily Stoic Podcast, Ryan Holiday speaks with Mt. Joy's lead singer Matt Quinn on the band's surge in popularity, authentic storytelling, and how consistency affects results:
"It's that combination of if you get an opportunity to work hard and you do it and you put in the work, you get better. Then as more and more people show up, you're more and more prepared to meet the moment."
