Good morning. PH affirms maritime zones, angering China

President Marcos has enacted two laws defining the country's maritime zones and its archipelagic sea lanes and air routes to assert the Philippines' rights over its waters, especially the West Philippine Sea — prompting Beijing to lodge a "stern protest."

Finally, three months after first giving the directive during his July 22 State of the Nation Address, the President on Friday issued the formal order banning POGOs, citing national security and public order as the chief reasons for closing them down.

Just weeks after Severe Tropical Storm "Kristine" and Supertyphoon "Leon," Typhoon "Marce" roared into the Philippines and battered Cagayan province, bringing howling winds, heavy rains and floods, and forcing the evacuation of over 6,400 families.

Showdown in Cebu: Four lawyers and about 100 supporters of dismissed mayor Michael Rama tried to take over the mayor's office at Cebu City Hall on Friday, claiming the former official was the rightful mayor. The takeover was eventually foiled.

Today's Lifestyle pays tribute to Robert Alejandro, the well-loved artist, teacher, and advocate who died Nov. 5 of cancer at 60. Alejandro, sanguine about his illness, once said of an upcoming exhibit: "Bili kayo. Art usually appreciates in value when the artist passes away."

Wiles is widely credited within and outside Trump's inner circle for running what was, by far, his most disciplined and well-executed campaign, and was seen as the leading contender for the position.

December rate cut likely amid slow Q3 GDP growth

The slower-than-expected economic growth in the third quarter would help justify another potential rate cut by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in December, although a volatile peso might complicate the central bank's easing cycle, analysts said.
