| | | | But it wasn’t a sawmill that Marshall became famous for. It’s what he discovered beneath the sawmill.
From the river, Marshall drew up ten or twelve small, shiny rocks and shouted with excitement.
One of his colleagues jumped down and bit one of the rocks to be sure… then shouted a proclamation that would change the history of the state:
“Gold, Boys! Gold!”
So began the 1849 California Gold Rush, the stuff of legend (and, yes, the reason that the San Francisco 49ers are named that — see? I know a sportsball thing!)
But while California’s gold rush might be the most famous, it certainly isn’t unique. Humans have been obsessed with gold for millennia, across the entire planet.
And for years and years and years, it has been the top “flight to safety” asset in the world.
So it’s no wonder that the price of gold is skyrocketing as we speak… with everything going on in the world, what would you expect?
