Good MorningEquity markets went on a ride in the previous week but rebounded from the lows. The S&P 500 fired off a trend-following signal and is indicating higher prices to come. The caveat is that resistance may be strong at the all-time high and cap gains for the summer. In that scenario, gains will evaporate quickly and could lead to significant losses should the outlook for interest rate cuts deteriorate. The market has repriced its expectation for interest rate cuts and is set up to rebound. The expectation now is for a cut by Q3, possibly two by the end of the year, but there is risk. The NFP report was tepid but aligns with healthy labor markets and wage inflation is still hot. If consumer inflation does not move lower by the end of summer, the FOMC could hold off on the first cut until next year. In this scenario, the S&P will enter another correction, and it could happen before the start of summer because there are several critical data points due before then.
