Read the newest blog and research results, as well as learn about upcoming events.
Many applicants and grantees haven't yet heard of all the free resources available to them on how to apply for National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants and about the policies and processes that govern how NIH funds grants. Today, I'd like to tell you about some of the most popular among these resources. Other people in the research field, such as postdocs, trainees, research administrators, and grant writers, may also be interested.
Over a 20-year period—from 2002 to 2022—U.S. adults not only increased their overall use of complementary health approaches but were also more likely to use complementary health approaches specifically for managing pain. The findings come from a new analysis by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). The research was funded by NCCIH and recently published in JAMA.
The Section on Sensory Cells and Circuits led by Senior Investigator Alexander Chesler, Ph.D., at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for fully funded research to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying somatosensation, interoception, and pain. We are located within a highly collaborative network of outstanding labs in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center and the NIH Intramural Program, providing a stimulating and collegial interdisciplinary training environment. The candidate will be able to apply cutting-edge techniques including in vivo functional imaging and electrophysiology, spatial transcriptomics, opto- and chemogenetics, and behavioral tracking in animal models, as well as quantitative sensory testing and microneurography in human subjects.
The 2024 Annual Emotional Well-Being (EWB) Investigator Meeting will take place on March 18, 2024. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) welcomes researchers and the public to attend the livestreamed open session to learn about six research networks and their efforts in advancing the science of EWB and to discuss remaining research gaps and opportunities. In addition, Eric Garland, Ph.D., will present the keynote speech "Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement Builds Emotional Well-Being by Restructuring Reward, Meaning, and Self." There will be ample time for participants to submit questions to the speakers.
The International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health will take place in Cleveland, Ohio at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown. It will bring together leading figures from various fields to showcase recent scientific advancements in integrative medicine and health.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) will lead a variety of sessions at ICIMH, including topics important to researchers at different stages of their careers.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health is partnering with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to hold a 2-day workshop to stimulate discussion about and interest in researching ways to reduce and mitigate the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in people who have been exposed. "Complementary and Integrative Interventions To Prevent and Mitigate the Effects of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals" will take place June 10–11, 2024. Save the date!
A registration link and agenda will be available soon.
NCCIH Director, Dr. Helene Langevin and Director of the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research, Dr. Jane Simoni, discuss highlights from the December 2023 workshop "Music as Medicine: The Science and Clinical Practice," particularly what music has to do with social and behavioral sciences and health.
