The Dunning-Kruger effect, where we overweight our limited areas of knowledge and downplay our competent ones, encourages us to cultivate greater intellectual humility.

For most, it's far from a comforting revelation. But learning that our grasp of knowledge is often clouded by self-deception can be beneficial. It can put us on the path to truly mastering a topic, and act as the key to spotting those who don't actually know what they're talking about.
