Investors looking for secure investments had to consider purchasing income stocks when the Federal Reserve increased interest rates by another 25 basis points. The benchmark rate set by the Fed is increasing, and now it is between 4.75% and 5.0%. During 2017, this federal funds rate has been the highest. The ideal dividend yield for income stocks is at least 4.75%, representing the risk-free return from holding cash and bonds. By holding the U.S. 6-month treasury on March 8, investors might have gotten a yield as high as 5.309%. The drawback of investing in assets that pay interest is that the investor must hold the asset till maturity. In addition, interest income is taxed at a greater rate than dividend income. As a result, investors would pass on stocks that were on the verge of making a comeback. The stock price rise adds to the dividend returns. (read more) |
