Authorities said that a forklift used for storm repairs ran over a guest at a seaside hotel in Florida, causing the guest to pass away. According to Michael Fowler, the director of public safety for Daytona Beach Shores, the 62-year-old lady was struck Monday while crossing the parking lot of the Beach Haven Inn. Her identity wasn't immediately disclosed. The hotel, which is close to the Atlantic Ocean, suffered damage when Tropical Storm Ian passed through the region in September. Fowler said that the forklift was transporting roofing material for storm repairs, and the driver apparently didn't see the woman before running over her. Officials said that the woman was taken to a nearby hospital and died a short time later. Police are investigating and have notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. (read more) | |

On Tuesday, while he ignored the ecological disaster in East Palestine, Ohio for the eleventh day in a row, President Joe Biden bragged about the steps his administration has taken to provide clean air and water to Americans. After a train derailed on February 3 and released toxic chemicals near the state's border with Pennsylvania, locals were afraid to use their wells for drinking water. Throughout eastern Ohio and neighboring Pennsylvania, reports have come in of fish kills. A woman in North Lima, Ohio, about 10 miles from East Palestine, told the media that her chickens had died after a controlled burn of some of the chemicals aboard the freighters began last week. Investors have started buying growth stocks again, following good data on the inflation front that has led the Federal Reserve to reduce the pace of interest rate hikes. Meanwhile, the U.S. economy grew at a faster-than-expected pace in 2022's fourth quarter despite higher living and borrowing costs. Technology stocks have benefited big time from these positive economic data points. This is evident from the Nasdaq-100 Technology Sector index's 18% rally so far in 2023. This impressive move has also rubbed off positively on shares of these stocks. (read more) |

Jacob Moore was recently fishing in the James River in Virginia when he snagged a largemouth bass. Doing so wasn't surprising, as that was the goal Moore had for the day, but something else made his catch quite rare. Moore is an arborist who participates in local fishing tournaments quite often. But this time when he landed a bass, he knew things were a little different. "I was out there practicing for a tournament, catching a bunch of fish," Moore said in a statement to the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. "When I hooked into that one, I thought I had a saltwater fish on at first, but lo and behold, it was a largemouth." This is what made the largemouth bass that Moore caught so rare. (read more) |
