Insider Trading Report: Caterpillar (CAT)
David MacLennan, a director at Caterpillar (CAT), recently bought 400 shares. The buy increased his holdings by 12 percent, and came to a total cost of $99,716.

The director was the last buyer of Caterpillar shares back in May. Otherwise, company insiders have been sellers of shares, mostly from the exercise of stock options. The sales have included both directors and executives.

Unusual Options Activity: Starbucks (SBUX)
Shares of coffee store chain Starbucks (SUBX) are up 15 percent over the past year, bucking the market downtrend. However, one trader sees a pullback in the coming weeks.

That's based on the March $102 puts. With 18 days until expiration, 4,092 contracts traded compared to a prior open interest of 164, for a 25-fold rise in volume. The buyer of the puts paid $1.67.

Core Inflation Rises More than Expected

Core personal consumption expenditures rose 4.7 percent year over year in January. That's a rise from the 4.4 percent number sin December, and above expectations for 4.3 percent. This measure of inflation, one widely watched by the Federal Reserve, shows that inflation remains stubborn.

Rising interest rates are sending investors into government bonds. However, demand for municipal bonds has declined, as investors continue to expect interest rates to continue to rise further. Demand in February has reversed all gains since January so far.

Streaming service company Netflix (NFLX) has decreased its subscription costs in over 100 territories in the past week. The move comes as the company is looking to retain customers following its decision to crack down on password sharing.
Leveraged Buyout Pioneer Passes Away

Thomas H. Lee, one of the first to pioneer leveraged buyouts in corporate America, has passed away at the age of 78. Lee is best known for the buyout of Snapple for $135 million in 1992, which was sold two years later for $1.7 billion. Unlike other leveraged buyout players, Lee generally avoided layoffs and cost cutting, focusing more on growing the value of a company.
