Her research focuses on diabetes complications, particularly peripheral neuropathy and cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. She is president-elect of medicine and science at the American Diabetes Association. She was a co-principal investigator of the NIDDK-funded Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) and Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (EDIC) study.
