EHC Program Update: Draft Key Questions on Menopause and Maternity Care Available for Comment

AHRQ Effective Health Care

Opportunity to Comment on Draft Key Questions

We encourage the public to participate in the development of our research projects. Comments can be submitted for:

Respectful Maternity Care: Dissemination and Implementation of Perinatal Safety Culture to Improve Equitable Maternal Healthcare Delivery and Outcomes
(Available for comment until September 9, 2022)

The goal of this review is to address the decisional dilemma facing policy makers and practice leaders around the uncertainty in measuring and identifying respectful maternity care (RMC), disrespect or abuse during pregnancy and childbirth, and effective strategies for implementing RMC in order to improve outcomes, particularly for disadvantaged populations. Importantly, this review will help define, identify, and evaluate key components of RMC and synthesize current research to inform an update of the AIM Maternal safety bundle by incorporating appropriate metrics and tools to assess RMC.

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause
(Available for comment until September 5, 2022)

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is a term that describes the spectrum of symptoms and signs caused by hypoestrogenic changes in urogenital tissues typically occurring during menopause, and may affect over half of postmenopausal women in the United States. Despite the negative impact on quality of life, few affected women seek help. Determining which type of treatment is appropriate for a patient is based on the patient's medical history and preferences. A comprehensive analysis of the benefits and harms of treatments for GSM has not been completed in several years. This review is needed to support the development of a clinical practice guideline and to inform decision-making for healthcare professionals, clinicians, patients, and caregivers.
