Two 16-year-old boys attempted to rob the wrong Texas father on Sunday. The husband and wife had just pulled up to their home after midnight when the two suspects approached the vehicle. One of them tried to open the vehicle's rear door. And that's where the couple's two infant children were seated. "The adult male feared for the safety of his family and fired shots and struck both suspects," Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote in a statement. "The wife was driving and drove away after the shooting to get away from the suspects." Did the suspects survive the shooting, and what happens next for this family? (read more) |

Even (perhaps even especially) among those who think Trump should sit things out in 2024 and beyond, many folks who have suffered through 18 months of Sleepy Joe in the White House miss him. Apparently, that might even include a few Democrats who never would have voted for him, too. At least when they're eyeballing their current personal finances. Trump fans come in a lot of different shapes and sizes. Covering vastly different backgrounds and agendas. According to Politico, so do Trump enablers. If you voted for Trump, ever wore MAGA gear, watched The Apprentice, or did anything other than denigrate him vigorously since 2016, you probably fall under one of their "archetypes" of the Trump enabler. I'm guessing they'd throw old Fred Frost in with the Tribalist Trolls. How about you? (read more) |

After speaking at a "Latinx" inclusion conference and making a comparison between Hispanics and tacos, first lady Jill Biden came under some scorn and derision from both sides of the political divide. At the Monday Latinx IncluXion Luncheon hosted at the Grand Hyatt Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas, Biden served as the keynote speaker. The first lady compared the Hispanic community to breakfast tacos after mispronouncing "bodegas" as "bogedas" when speaking to the largely Hispanic crowd. (read more) |

There are many risks and tense situations in the current weak market. However, the downturn also offers investors a fantastic purchasing opportunity since many top blue-chip firms are being driven lower along with the general market, resulting in their becoming undervalued blue-chip stocks. Even though these well-run and well-established businesses continue to generate strong profitability, outperform Wall Street projections, and remain market leaders, their share prices are declining. As a result, long-term rewards for investors who can tolerate short-term volatility will likely come as these equities finally bottom out, bounce back, and turn higher. Reliable blue-chip stocks will undoubtedly recover from this year's bad market, but many unproductive businesses may never do so. (read more) |

Numerous couples who had their marriages postponed or reduced owing to the pandemic were given a second chance at no less than a New York City landmark. On Sunday night, under the pavilion outside the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, 500 couples attended "Celebrate Love: A (Re)Wedding." It is described as "a wonderful day for newlyweds, individuals whose marriages were postponed or scaled back, and people who want to pledge their love to their spouses and the city we adore" on the Lincoln Center website. It included music, dancing, speeches by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and a multicultural ceremony that was not legally binding. (read more) |

Attorney Carrie Jernigan often shares legal advice to her 1.2 million followers on TikTok. "As a criminal defense attorney, I advise most people to steer clear of self-checkout," Jernigan said in a recent video that now has over 2 million views. Her reason was that "big-box stores" use the security footage at the register to accuse innocent customers of stealing. Jernigan claims there are three groups of people who use self-checkout that are being charged with shoplifting. The first group of people are those with the intent to steal. These people sometimes scan the wrong barcode in an attempt to get something cheaper or free altogether. The second group is what she refers to as the theft by mistake group. These are the people who might accidentally leave something in the bottom of their cart as they're checking out. Despite the fact that this might be a complete accident, these people often still get charged. The third group Jernigan talked about was the truly innocent group. Jernigan says when stores go back to perform inventory and realize they are short on certain products, they review footage at the self-serve checkouts to try and catch people who may have stolen certain items that have come up short…and unless you save your receipts and can prove you paid for a particular product, you could be facing up to a year in jail along with some hefty fines.
