Do you qualify for a third COVID vaccine dose?

A third dose of COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people who may not have had a strong enough immune response after receiving the first two doses. A third shot is appropriate for people whose immune response may have weakened over time since becoming fully vaccinated.

Talk with your health care provider to see if you may be eligible for a third dose.

Loving kindness meditation proves effective for PTSD

A VA study has found that a course of loving kindness meditation is just as effective as one of VA's front-line treatments for treating PTSD.

Loving kindness meditation involves silently repeating phrases such as, "May I be safe. May I be happy. May I be healthy. May my life unfold with ease." It is intended to bring up feelings of kindness for oneself and others.

Birmingham VA nurses reunite Veteran with missing daughter

Birmingham VA nurses Meme Barron, Stephanie Christian and Elonda Hendley (l to r) helped a missing girl reunite with her Veteran father. "When I saw her, I knew she was young and my intuition told me to help her," said Barron.

"We've been looking for her since March," said the father. "I'm grateful these nurses showed concern and went to see about her, or she would probably still be missing. They are angels."

Caregiver and Veteran share story of support 

Bree Shields is a caregiver who has spent the last several years supporting and empowering her husband Sean.

Sean is an Army Veteran who deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. He sustained a knee and back injury, memory and hearing loss, and PTSD. After returning home, he couldn't shake the feeling that "something was off."

They hope their story encourages other caregivers and Veterans to get the help they need.
