NINR Extramural Program: News, Updates, and Opportunities This monthly newsletter for NINR applicants and awardees provides useful information about funding initiatives and other opportunities. Funding Opportunities | | New Funding Opportunities The following funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) with NINR participation were recently published in the NIH Guide. | NOT-AG-21-018: NOSI - Alzheimer's-Focused Administrative Supplements for NIH Grants that are Not Focused on Alzheimer's Disease. Application Due Date: October 1, 2021 NOT-OD-21-156: Notice of Intent to Publish a funding opportunity to establish the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) Coordinating Center. The goal of this major NIH effort is to increase the participation by those currently underrepresented in the development of AI/ML models, and to enhance the capabilities of this emerging technology to address health disparities and inequities. NOT-NR-21-003: NINR has joined the Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH) funding announcement (PAR-20-125). AIDS-related applications are due on July 23, 2021. Continuing Funding Opportunities PA-21-071: The next deadline for diversity supplements is coming up on August 15, with the opportunity to support undergraduate, predoctoral, postdoctoral, and investigator candidates who have a degree in nursing or are enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to speak with the Program Officer of their parent NINR grant prior to submission. NOT-NR-21-004: Notice of Participation of NINR in PA-21-050, "Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellowship for Students at Institutions Without NIH-Funded Institutional Predoctoral Dual-Degree Training Programs (Parent F30)." NINR provides support for students enrolled in dual degree DNP/PhD programs. See the relevant announcements for more information. Expiration Date: September 8, 2023 RFA-MD-21-004: Understanding and Addressing the Impact of Structural Racism and Discrimination on Minority Health and Health Disparities (R01 Clinical Trial Optional). Expiration Date: August 25, 2021 NOT-OD-21-087: NOSI - Developing and Testing Multilevel Physical Activity Interventions to Improve Health and Well-Being. Expiration Date: February 16, 2024 Job Opportunities News and Events - The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) wants your input on research priorities for identifying, analyzing, monitoring, and mitigating drinking water contaminants of emerging concern. RFI extended through August 2, 2021.
- Changes to K-award Salary Support: NINR has raised the maximum level of salary support for K01 (PA-20-190) and K99/R00 applications for both the regular program (PA-20-187) for MOSAIC (PAR-19-343). Applicants can now request up to $100,000 plus fringe benefits per year for salary.
- July 21‒22, 2021: Approaches to Effective Therapeutic Management of Pain for People With Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). This virtual workshop will explore critical gaps, challenges, and solutions for understudied pain conditions in SCD within a highly underserved population. Registration is required.
- Concept to Clinic: Commercializing Innovation (C3i) is a training course for technology innovators, designed to provide teams with the specialized business frameworks and essential tools that drive translation of biomedical technologies from lab to market. Participation requires an active NINR-funded grant or an award in NCE (through 04/08/2022). Applications must be received no later than July 26, 2021. For more information contact: Dr. Kris Bough.
- September 21‒23, 2021: NIH Workshop on Food Insecurity, Neighborhood Food Environment, and Nutrition Health Disparities: State of the Science. Registration is required.
