Dear book clubbers, First, we look back. Last week we met up with Naomi Alderman, author of The Power, for our monthly live event. We talked about the patriarchy and revenge and how Naomi managed to predict the 2016 presidential debates well before they took place, and Naomi dropped some hints about what the forthcoming TV adaptation of The Power will look like. You can catch the whole thing on video here. Next, we look forward. In April, we are reading The Death of Vivek Oji, by Akwaeke Emezi. It's a lovely, ferocious kaleidoscope of a novel that doesn't cleanly fit into one genre or another: It's a murder mystery of sorts, but it's never quite clear that there's been a murder. It's also a love story, and a coming of age story. It's the story of a life, told in fragments. I can't wait to talk about it with you. |
