Announcements Debbie Chen July 29, 2024 In October 2020, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued the Final NIH Policy for Data Management and Sharing (DMS), effective for competing applications with due dates on or after January 25, 2023, to promote the sharing of scientific data. In a 2022 post on this blog, my colleagues Drs. D. Craig Hopp and Emmeline Edwards announced new web resources to help applicants understand the policy. Today, I'll answer a few questions we are often asked at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Office of Grants Management and highlight a new implementation requirement taking effect October 1, 2024. | July 2024 Clinical Digest Several dietary and herbal supplements have been studied for hepatitis C, and substantial numbers of people with hepatitis C have tried herbal supplements. The most commonly used supplement for hepatitis C is silymarin (an extract from milk thistle). However, no dietary supplement has been shown to be efficacious for hepatitis C. This issue of the Clinical Digest provides information on what the science says about several dietary supplements studied for hepatitis C. | Resources for Researchers Featured Research News NCCIH intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit UG3/UH3 phased cooperative agreement research applications to conduct efficient, large-scale pragmatic clinical trials and/or implementation science demonstration projects within the infrastructure of the NIH-DOD-VA Pain Management Collaboratory (PMC) on nonopioid approaches to the management of pain and other comorbid conditions, including complementary and integrative approaches used alone and in combination with standard care (e.g., mindfulness meditation combined with standard pharmaceutical treatment), and improving prevention and treatment for opioid misuse and addiction in U.S. Veterans, military personnel, and their families. Supporting the trials, the PMC has established a coordinating center that provides national leadership and technical expertise for all aspects of health care system (HCS)-focused research including assistance to UG3/UH3 grant recipients. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The NOFO is expected to be published in Fall 2024 with an expected application due date in November 2024. NIH is issuing a follow-up Request for Information (RFI) as part of its effort to gauge feedback from the biomedical research community to inform implementation of recommendations from the Advisory Committee to the Director on re-envisioning NIH-supported postdoctoral training. Please use the form below to submit your feedback on the selected recommendations presented in Request for Information (RFI) on Recommendations on Re-envisioning U.S. Postdoctoral Research Training and Career Progression within the Biomedical Research Enterprise. Please note that response fields are limited to 200 words. Please provide comments on any or all of the recommendations below. To ensure consideration, responses must be submitted by October 23, 2024 by 11:59:59 p.m. ET. Upcoming Events August 14, 2024, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. ET; Virtual NCCIH, along with 14 other Institutes, Centers, and Offices at NIH, is seeking applications to establish a Whole Person Research and Coordination Center (Whole Person RCC) that will provide the necessary infrastructure to help researchers explore how our bodies' different systems interact with one another. A technical assistance webinar was held in July (view archived recording). The next opportunity for interested applicants is a Networking Webinar on August 14, 2024 from 11 a.m. to noon ET. The purpose of this networking webinar is to provide a forum for applicants to meet potential partners needed to form multidisciplinary applicant teams. (Program staff will not answer questions about the funding opportunity during this event.) Register for the networking/teaming webinar. September 13, 2024 Save the date for the next meeting of the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH). In case you missed it... The archive of this lecture, given by Aaron Y. Lee, M.D., M.S.C.I., is now available. View the archive video. |
