Too early for rate cut talk, BSP says


It is still too early to put interest rate cuts on the table as upside pressures on prices remain even if inflation is on a downtrend, according to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona.

Gotianun plans Cebu desalination plant to ease water shortage


The Gotianun conglomerate is keen on developing a desalination plant in Cebu to help alleviate water supply problem in the Philippines' second largest metropolitan area. FDC Utilities Inc. (FDCUI), a unit of Filinvest Development Corp., hopes to start soon the construction of the desalination facility with capacity of 80 million liters per day (MLD).

MSMEs urged to use credit cards for funding shortfall


Credit cards can be a viable financing tool for small enterprises seeking loans amid a countrywide business funding gap that is estimated in the trillions of pesos. Industry group Credit Card Association of the Philippines (CCAP) said certain micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) could tap credit card loans for "short-term financial needs."

'Huge' power generation cost to be recouped over 3 years


A Supreme Court (SC) ruling that allowed the staggered recovery of P22.64 billion in power generation costs would likely be implemented on a three-year period starting next year, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said. ERC chair Monalisa Dimalanta declined to disclose the final cost, which would be collected from customers of power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) and other distribution utilities and electric cooperatives in Luzon.
