Led by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the CIP is a partnership with CII, USAID/Ghana, Grand Challenges Canada, AMP Health and others across the healthcare ecosystem. This bold new initiative aims to address gaps in maternal and newborn health by identifying transformative ideas across Africa and providing them with seed grants of $200,000 to $250,000 CAD (approx. $150,000 to $187,000 USD) to develop and test the proposed innovation in Ghana. The CIP focuses on four priority health challenges: improved communication and real-time tracking of information along the patient referral journey; increased accessibility and availability of transport; improved skills of healthcare workers, and increased availability of essential medicines and supplies. GHS will make funding decisions, in collaboration with country-based stakeholders, with international donors supporting the investment. This panel focused on reimagining collaboration between the global North and the global South, using the white paper to contextualize the state of global health and development through the lens of decolonization, localization, and DEIA. The panel shared how the partnership came to be, the analytical process, key findings, and lessons learned about true transparency and equity in partnerships. The discussion highlighted what emerging global health professionals should take from this process and apply in their daily work. | | | | CII at the 2023 Global Goods Innovators Summit | | | CII's Merrick Schaefer and Nilima Mehta, alongside colleagues from USAID's Office of HIV/AIDS and the Centers for Disease Control, shared their insights at the 2023 Global Goods Innovators Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The week-long conference, organized by PATH and Digital Square, gathered technologists and innovators based in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean to engage in discussions that build and promote a digital health ecosystem, which supplies local decision-makers with the data they need to make informed choices about digital health products, tools, capabilities, and services. Digital Square partners with innovators to increase the availability and adaptability of global goods to address country-driven health needs. Digital Square is a partnership of government leaders, ministries of health, private sector partners, donors, global health advocates, and innovators. | | | | CII co-sponsors innovation training focused on LMIC-based practitioners
| | | CII co-sponsored the annual International Development Innovation Alliance (IDIA) training on Managing Innovation for Development Impact in Cape Town, South Africa. The Center's funding enabled key thinkers in LMICs to join the training, facilitating the creation of innovation ecosystems which development organizations can draw on. IDIA's unique curriculum emphasizes dynamic learning and skills, and this year drew representatives from donor organizations, government agencies, researchers, and NGOs from across the globe. Designed and delivered by some of the world's leading innovation thinkers, including our partners at Stanford, the training centered respect for contextual sensitivity, awareness of power dynamics, and mobilizing diverse social resources, which framed the discussions about how the learnings on innovation could be best applied in participants' own roles. | | CII Alumna Priya Sharma Principal at Mission Measurement Priya Sharma leads a consulting team at Mission Measurement, where she helps clients quantify the value of their social impact.
