According to the CDC, over 97% of people who contracted Naegleria fowleri between 1962 and 2021 died. Most contracted the disease from warm, freshwater bodies like lakes, rivers, and hot springs. But the latest victim, an unidentified man from Charlotte County, Florida, is believed to have fallen victim by using tap water to irrigate his sinuses. That's an important distinction to make because the Department of Health in Charlotte said infection is rare and can only happen when water contaminated with the amoeba enters through the nose, stressing that it can't be contracted by drinking tap water. What else do we know about this latest victim of Naegleria fowleri?

Tucker Carlson delivers another great (and scathing) commentary on Lori Lightfoot's loss in Chicago. Remember when Jussie Smollett was attacked by MAGA hat-wearing Nigerians who declared, "This is MAGA country?" Sure, we learned all of that was a hoax. I mean, when I think of MAGA country, the last place I think of is Chicago. But now Lori is bringing this concept back to life. The term "sore loser" doesn't even begin to cut it. (learn more) |

Investing in dividend stocks is an "all-weather" strategy. Dividend-paying stocks can increase returns on investment through the power of compounding in bull markets (when the dividend is reinvested). By their monthly payments, these stocks help limit downside losses during downturn markets. Yet, not all dividend stocks are excellent investments. Stocks with high yields, often defined as 4% or more, can be a value trap. A corporation with declining fundamentals and a bleak future may yield exceptionally high. There are, however, some high-yield dividend stocks that are reliable sources of income. Here is a look at two blue-chip stocks that offer annualized yields of 5.22% and 6.81%, respectively. A woman in Slidell, Louisiana was known for driving an old ice cream truck around town. Police received several complaints about the truck because it had expired tags and no brake lights. Detectives put the truck on their radar and waited to catch it. On Monday morning, cops finally got their chance to conduct a traffic stop to investigate the truck. Once inside the truck, police found melted ice cream in the freezer, but they also found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The woman who was driving the truck was reportedly selling drugs instead of ice cream. But that wasn't all that cops found on the truck. This double surprise was waiting for them when they boarded the truck to investigate. (read more) |

Joe Melgoza was celebrating his nuptials at his wedding reception in the backyard of a family member's home in Chino, California, when the unthinkable happened. Rony and Josue Castaneda showed up to the event uninvited. "They lived nearby and likely heard the festivities and went to the reception," said the D.A.'s office. The brothers were reportedly seen taking part in the festivities by dancing and taking photos with the women in attendance. The pair soon left the party, but came back later. Here's what happened when they returned and began to taunt Melgoza and what they now face. (read more) |
