Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... Navy engineer accused of trying to pass along secrets in a PB&J A Navy engineer, Jonathan Toebbe, 42, was arrested Saturday in West Virginia on suspicion of conspiracy to communicate restricted data, along with related crimes. His wife, Diana Toebbe, 45, a teacher in Maryland, was arrested on allegations that she assisted him. A criminal complaint alleges that Toebb sent a package containing military documents and other files to a military intelligence agency in the country he was trying to establish a relationship with.
The package ended up in an FBI attaché in the country. An undercover FBI agent began emailing Toebbe. In the following months, he provided the agent with documents containing restricted details about Virginia-class submarines, which are nuclear-powered fast attack warships.
This man tries to plow his car into a group of people, who then kill him A night out drinking escalated quickly, resulting in 40-year-old Melguin Lopez Santos' death, authorities say. Apparently the California man had been at a sports bar, called Rock It, on Saturday just before he was involved in the incident that would end his life. Santos had apparently been asked to leave the bar, though it is unclear exactly what sparked his forced departure. He then got into an alleged argument on the way to his vehicle.
He apparently got into his truck, and then attempted to drive into a group of other patrons. He wound up hitting a tree. Those people he tried to kill? They were not happy about what just happened, and tried to pluck him from the vehicle. He pumped the gas, though, and wound up striking a building. Eventually, he was pulled from the car, and a fight followed. By the time the police arrived, he was dead.
"Hawthorne Police officers saw the driver lying on the ground, suffering what appeared to be blunt force trauma," officers said. "Paramedics provided life-saving measures, but he was pronounced deceased on scene... You could see there was a fight going on, but you couldn't tell who was doing what."
An autopsy will shed light on what, exactly, caused Santos' death.
New York woman accused of starving child to death is charged with murder A New York woman was charged with murder Friday after authorities alleged that she starved her boyfriend's 7-year-old son to death this year. The woman, Leticia Bravo, 39, became the primary caretaker for the boy, Peter Cuacuas, in September 2020 after the school year began, and he stayed at her home every day until Saturdays, when he went to his father's apartment.
"It is alleged that Bravo kept Peter locked and secreted in a bedroom behind a door that locked from the outside. Since January of 2021, Peter never logged on for virtual schooling, despite numerous conversations between Bravo and Peter's teachers and other school representatives," a release from the investigators said.
An autopsy confirmed the commonly held belief that Peter died of malnutrition, according to authorities at a news conference on Friday. Bravo is believed to be Peter's mother, but authorities were unable to say with certainty. Peter's father, Arturo Cuacuas, was charged with criminally negligent homicide. He was not in custody as of Friday.
District Attorney David Hoovler took a few minutes in the press conference to defend the length of the investigation, saying that pandemic-related obstacles and staffing shortages added to the already laborious time of conducting interviews, running DNA, and other aspects of a death investigation.
