Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... Florida electrician kills 3 coworkers in knife, baseball bat attack On Saturday in Florida, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a press conference that electrician Shaun Runyon got into an argument with his supervisor Friday. He punched the man and fled the job site. He returned to the Davenport home where he was temporarily living with his co-workers on Saturday.
There, he beat one man to death while he slept, killed another man on the front porch, and chased another victim into the street, beating him badly with a bat. A fourth victim suffered critical injuries and later died at the hospital. Another man, his wife, and their 7-year-old daughter escaped unharmed.
Facebook whistleblower revealed on 60 Minutes, says the company prioritized profit over safety The identity of the Facebook whistleblower who released tens of thousands of pages of internal research and documents — leading to a firestorm for the social media company in recent weeks — was revealed on 60 Minutes Sunday night as Frances Haugen.
The 37-year-old former Facebook product manager who worked on civic integrity issues at the company says the documents show that Facebook knows its platforms are used to spread hate, violence, and misinformation, and that the company has tried to hide that evidence. Facebook has aggressively pushed back against the reports, calling many of the claims "misleading" and arguing that its apps do more good than harm.
About a month ago, Haugen filed at least eight complaints with the Securities and Exchange Commission alleging that the company is hiding research about its shortcomings from investors and the public. She also shared the documents with the Wall Street Journal, which published a multi-part investigation showing that Facebook was aware of problems with its apps, including the negative effects of misinformation and the harm caused, especially to young girls, by Instagram.
The Pandora Papers: Major secrets of the ultra-rich exposed The secret wealth and dealings of world leaders, politicians, and billionaires has been exposed in one of the biggest leaks of financial documents. Some 35 current and former leaders and more than 300 public officials are featured in the files from offshore companies, dubbed the Pandora Papers.
The files reportedly provided evidence that South Dakota now rivaled opaque jurisdictions in Europe and the Caribbean for financial secrecy. Financial secrecy laws in South Dakota have made the state a prime location for foreigners who want to conceal and protect their assets, with tens of millions of dollars tied to people accused of financial crimes and human rights abuses.
81 of the offshore accounts detailed in the Pandora Papers are in South Dakota, making it the state in the US with the largest number of trusts from the report. South Dakota is so appealing to the ultra-rich because they want the best security, the best income, and the lowest costs.
In 2019, for example, family members of the former vice president of the Dominican Republic, who once led one of the largest sugar producers in the country, finalized several trusts in South Dakota. The trusts held personal wealth and shares of the company, which has stood accused of human rights and labor abuses, including illegally bulldozing houses of impoverished families to expand plantations.
