Join the Next Education Call for Caregivers! The Veterans Affairs (VA) Caregiver Support Line (CSL) provides monthly education calls for caregivers that focus on "care for the caregiver". The calls are open to caregivers of Veterans who receive health care services at the VA. These calls begin with a presentation on the subject of the month and offer open discussion time for caregivers to share their thoughts and feelings on the topic. Come join the Caregiver Support Line as they support you in your caregiving journey. Upcoming monthly education calls: October 2021- Finding Your Voice: Self-Advocacy in Medical Setting Caregivers can be a great advocate for Veterans. But at times, they can struggle to focus attention on their own needs. This can result in a caregiver's own health being compromised. We will look at some of the hurdles that caregivers may face in getting their own needs met. As well as share tips and ideas on how to discuss these needs with medical staff in order to help keep you healthy. November 2021- Preserving Caregivers on the Front Lines Caring for a Veteran is a big job. It can take a toll on your physical, emotional, and mental health. Caregivers often focus on the needs of their Veteran instead of their own personal needs. Neglecting your own self-care can place you at risk for burnout. This group strives to bring this needed attention back to you as the caregiver. Self-care tools will be shared that can support the wellbeing of the caregiver. December 2021- Beyond the Blues: Coping with Caregiver Depression Are you a caregiver that is carrying the heavy weight of depression? Caregivers are at least two times more likely to suffer from depression than non-caregivers. Depression is an illness, not a reflection of your strength as a person. Depression is not a sign of weakness. You wouldn't think you were weak because you had any other medical illness. Untreated depression can harm your thoughts, feelings, and physical health. Don't ignore this serious medical concern! This group helps caregivers identify signs of depression and offers hope in discussing treatments and resources to cope with depression. About the CSL The VA CSL is a toll-free number for caregivers, family members, friends, Veterans, and community partners to contact for information related to caregiving and available supports and services. Our dedicated CSL team provides information on caregiver support services, counseling, educational services, and referrals (electronic notification) to local CSP staff at VA medical centers.
