Reportedly, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told Democrats not to "embarrass" the president while he's overseas by voting down the plan. His domestic agenda is one point to watch out for — but relations with France after the submarine snub, China and Russia's absences, supply chains, and climate change are all worth paying attention to. Just as Mark Zuckerberg, who recently rebranded the parent company that encompasses his suite of apps. As we've previously reported, former employee Frances Haugen leaked documents that paint a less-than-stellar view of the company. She said, for instance, that executives did nothing about its research clearly illustrating how harmful the social media app is to teens. Further, the leaked data suggest that the social media giant was having a difficult time addressing vaccine misinformation, despite saying otherwise.   But at Thursday's Facebook connect conference, those issues were nothing more than blips on Zuckerberg's radar. He seemed to allude to the negative coverage by saying: "The last few years have been humbling for me and our company in a lot of ways." But his focus was primarily on his vision for the "metaverse," which has been described as a new experience of the internet, blending augmented and virtual reality. He announced that Facebook's parent company will now be called "Meta," to reflect this new trajectory and focus. Some, of course, are critiquing his move to direct attention away from the public relations nightmare he is now facing.  "We're now looking at and reporting on our businesses as two different segments," he said. "One for our family of apps and one for work on future platforms, and as part of this, it is time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do to reflect who we are and what we hope to build. Our mission remains the same, still about bringing people together, our apps and their brands, they're not changing either." The last intelligence made available to the public showed the resistance forces holed up in Afghanistan's smallest province, Panjshir. The Taliban claims that it took Panjshir last month. Now, U.S. aid in the form of money and weapons could very well be the resistance's last hope. But to what extent does the United States owe Massoud a fraction of its sprawling power?
