The COVID-19 pandemic has touched every community, striking minority and underrepresented groups particularly hard. To improve the lives of people affected by COVID-19 and chronic conditions in our mission, NIDDK continues to work to achieve health equity through diversifying representation in research studies, clinical trials, and the medical workforce.

NIDDK-funded program promotes diversity in academic pediatrics

Survey shows success! In 2012, the Academic Pediatric Association – with funding from NIDDK – created a program to increase diversity in the pediatric research workforce by supporting early career scholars. Now a study finds the program is meeting its goals and could set a model for other programs with the same mission.
